Valentine’s Day is around the corner and if you have come to this article, then we know you are looking to impress somebody. Now while we can’t guarantee you that you are going to have the best Valentine’s Day ever, but we can help you from making it a complete disaster. Here are a few things you want to avoid to make sure your Valentine’s Day goes well:
Note* We understand that a lot of these tips may appear to cater to men, but we ensure you that these certainly apply to everyone….

Your Card or Gift Ends up in the Wrong Hands

Buying a Valentine’s Day card is the easiest purchase you can make. But, make sure you clearly label on the outside of the card with who the intended receiver is and make sure you keep it where nobody else would be able to see it. You may not be a victim to it yet, but Moms have a special ability to find gifts in the house, and what was meant for your partner, could very well end up being hers.
The same tactic must be applied to your workplace. We all have office crushes and Valentine’s Day is the safest way to give this person the hint – just make sure it somehow doesn’t end up in your boss’ hands!

Your Private Twitter Message Ends Up Going Public

For many, Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to let the person you are crushing on known about your feelings towards them. If  you haven’t gotten up the nerve to tell them in person, chances are the best way to speak your heart is through social media. So we are cautioning you make sure that your message to your crush is set to private on all your social media accounts (especially Twitter!!).  Even if you do manage to keep the message private, remember, your crush could take a screen shot of your “passion” and you could end up all over the internet.

You Text your EX Instead of your Current Partner

Valentine’s Day is the one day out of the whole year when you simply cannot remember the fun times with your ex. Many people often think that because love is in the air, its a good time to look back through the contacts on your phone or stalk your ex via Facebook. Well we are here to tell you this couldn’t be further from the truth because you are about to create yourself a whole new pile of problems. If it’s additional drama you want in your life, try getting a subscription to HBO or Netflix.

 Didn’t Make a Reservation

Chances are you want to take your date to some place nice for Valentine’s Day. But guess what? So does everybody else! Most “nice” places have reservations booked at least  a week in advance so if this is your way to impress, make sure you are on top of this – how cool are you going to look when you and your date are asked to wait an hour? We highly recommend that you try cooking a meal at home instead. This will speak volumes about you and get you extra brownie points, granted only if you do well. Well this is a mistake you certainly want to avoid.

You Double Book Yourself with Two Dates at the Same Restaurant

Let’s be honest its 2015 and there are times when you just start dating someone and perhaps you are still dating someone else, hey it can happen. Just do yourself a favor, and don’t book the same restaurant twice especially back-to-back. Really how much fun would that be if your next date shows up a few minutes early?

You Went Under dressed

Dress to impress is the code you want to follow for Valentine’s Day. You can go eat dinner in a casual outfit any other day. Let’s be honest, this attitude should be applied to all dates in general. Pretend as if the person you are going to the date with has spent a whole week thinking about their outfit, now curate your outfit accordingly.

You Get Caught Being Valentine’s Day Secret Admirer

Often people will secretly send a gift to a friend or co-worker in hopes of seeing a smile from the person that they crush on. Being a secret admirer is supposed to be just that- a secret. So don’t go around telling everyone BUT your secret admirer that its actually you, because guess what it won’t be a secret anymore. It certainly won’t be in your favor if you are bragging about it, especially if you don’t want to me confronted by your crush.

Last Minute Present FAIL

Along with the boring gifts like a card, your significant other is also expecting some REAL gift. Yes, it can be headache, but it was you who decided to be with someone on Valentine’s Day so you might as well have fun with it! It does not have to be extravagant but it should be thoughtful . As long as you put a little bit of effort, you should be in the clear. Things like writing a poem, a love letter, creating scrapbooks, or perhaps an item that is themed around their favorite thing is a decent place to start. If this is one of the initial dates (and perhaps even for those that are in long relationships), getting tickets for a future event is a great gift; not only will you impress your partner, but you just also secured yourself a second date. Talking Smack About the Day

If you are one of those who says, “Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday” or “everyday should be treated like Valentine’s Day” then you are simply digging yourself a hole if you have partner to spend the day with. Think about it, isn’t every holiday exploited by corporations to make money? Then what is the point of singling this one out? Yes, we should all love our partners throughout the year but if you allow yourself to actually be in the spirit of the day, you will find out you actually like it.
