As we all know, Houston, Texas is one of the most impacted areas of Hurricane Harvey, which is now being classified as a tropical storm. Despite Harvey losing its hurricane-status, the damage and chaos it has created are absolutely unseen.

An incredible amount of rainfall has led to massive floods and multiple deaths have been reported as a result. Hundreds of people are still missing, and thousands have to relocate until the storm waivers.

Unfortunately, some of those people just left their pets behind to die in a storm as if they were a replaceable item.

Dogs are seen left behind, abandoned and even tied up around a tree even though the water level is alarmingly high. Because these pets were trapped, their owners essentially left them behind to perish.
Many locals, rescuers, and volunteers have spotted multiple pets chained in the flooded areas.

For example, someone found a helpless four-legged pup stuck on a guardrail. The person who posted this picture online, luckily stated that the dog had been rescued.
DailyMail photographer Ruaridh Connellan captured an image of a dog tied up around a tree and spotted another canine who was strapped up near a mobile home in Victoria. In contrary to their owners, Ruaridh had no intention at all of leaving these animals behind.

The man rushed to the dog in the first picture and made his way into the water.

Luckily, the water level wasn’t extremely high and he was quickly able to rescue the pup to safer and drier grounds. The dog was absolutely terrified and kept on wiggling her tail when she was surrounded by the water.
The brave photographer gave the pup the name Lucky. When he returned one day later to check up on her, Lucky instantly recognized him and ran straight into his arms to give her rescuer a hug. Ruaridh brought some food, water and a lot of love. Lucky was brought to a temporary shelter with another found dog, two kittens and even a pony.

“I was happy to see Lucky when I pulled up to the property, she came running out through the fence and greeted and me wagging her tail,” he recalls. “I fed Lucky some food I had in my car and gave her some fresh water.”
If possible, Ruaridh plans on adopting the adorable pup. He has a unique bond with his new four-legged friend and would love to take her back home.

“I’d love to take Lucky to live with me in New York, but sadly I’ll have to wait and go through the proper channels. I’m disappointed in people who abandon their animals. I feel good about what I did. There is no doubt in my mind, if I didn’t unleash Lucky from the tree, she would have drowned.”
Texan officials are taking reports of abandoned pets and animals in the flooded areas very seriously.

“I promise you, that I will hold anyone accountable that unlawfully restrains their dog in extreme weather conditions,” Chief Stephen Carlisle from Roman Forest said. “Dogs are your family members too.”
