I bet something you never thought about. Yes, it’s about pooping, and
something tells us that we are doing it wrong. And this is not
according to me but to scientists at the Stanford University Pelvic
Floor Clinic. Yes, that is the whole name and they are taking some
serious claims about this. We all do it from the position of sitting but
these scientists explain us that our bodies are designed for squatting.
It will all make better sense if we look back at the history of habits we have in our bathroom.
There are many diseases caused by improper fecal elimination (sounds better than pooping).
We are going to name them few: hemorrhoids, colon cancer, appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease.
These can all be the result of the doing it in improper way.
An experiment has been done over 28 volunteers while being in the
bathroom and…well pooping. They tried doing it in three positions: while
sitting on a high toilette, sitting on a lower one and the final
position – squatting.
This experiment clearly showed that position of squatting gave the best
the best results because it was the easiest way to do it and it took a
whole minute less. So if you are in a hurry from now on you know how to
do it.
Gastroenterologist Anish Sheth is also the co-author of the books: “What’s My Pee Telling Me?”
and “What’s Your Poo Telling You”, and he is convinced when he say:
“There is definitely some physiologic sense to squatting “, “To put it
simply, it straightens out the colon”.
While doing a research what others might think “everyday health” also
states that “ the colon gets pushed up against the muscle of the
puborectalis when we are standing, while in a position of sitting
relaxation of the muscle is done only partially.
Definitely squatting is the best way to relax your muscles, and helps and makes much easier the whole pooping process.
In a book from 1964 named “Bockus’s Gastroenterology” which was back then a standard medical text was clearly written: “Squatting position is
the ideal posture for defecation, with the thighs fixed upon the
abdomen” Our ancestors practiced this on a daily basis till the middle
of the 19th century.
Squatting and its Health Benefits
– Elimination is done easier and faster.
– Colon cancer is prevented due to stagnation of waste.
– Prevents the contamination of the small intestine.
– Prostate is much healthier because squatting position protects the
pelvis nerves and the pelvic floor, sexuality and bladder control.
– Protects bladder and uterus from damaging, while protecting the nerves the control prostate.
– Squatting offers a great deal of help to pregnant women, which helps
them with a natural delivery. While using the toilette is does avoid
pressure on the uterus.
